Yu Irie
1979年、神奈川県生まれ埼玉育ち。
03年、日本芸術学部映画学科卒業。
大学在学中より映画や映像作品の制作を始め、短編『OBSESSION』（02）と短編『SEVEN DRIVES』（03）がゆうばり国際ファンタスティック映画祭のファンタシティック・オフシアター・コンペティション部門に2年連続入選し、05年には4本の短編を集めた短編集『OBSESSION』が池袋シネマ・ロサにてレイトショー公開され、注目をあびた。冨永昌敬監督作品『パビリオン山椒魚』には演出部として参加。
2006年に初の長編映画『JAPONICA VIRUS』が全国劇場公開。仙台、埼玉などで入江悠監督特集上映が上映される。他に『くりいむレモン魔人形』『SPYGIRLS水着スパイ』など。
2009年ゆうばり国際ファンタスティック映画祭で『ＳＲサイタマノラッパー』がファンタスティック・オフシアターコンペティション部門でグランプリを受賞。3月には池袋シネマロサで劇場公開されるや初日動員記録を塗り替えるヒットとなる。
以降北は北海道から南は沖縄まで、全国のミニシアターで順次劇場公開されるなど好評を博す。
一躍、今もっとも新作が見たい監督の1人となる。
DIRECTOR: YU IRIE
Born in 1979, Japan. A Japanese film director and screenwriter. When Irie was in Nihon University College of Art, he directed a number of short films, including “Obsession” and “Seven Drives” which were screened at Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival. After the graduation, in 2009, his second feature film “8000 Miles” won the grand prize in the Off Theatre Competition at Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival. It also gave Irie the Directors Guild of Japan New Directors Award and the NETPAC Award from Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival. Since then, he has been constantly producing numerous films, including the two sequels of “8000 Miles.” After receiving the Takasaki Film Festival New Director Award for “Ringing in Their Ears” (2011) and Japan Film Critics Award Best Screenplay for “AI Amok” (2020,) numerous awards were added to his career with “A Girl Named Ann” (2024,) including the Best Actress and Best Screenplay from Japan Academy Prize. Other projects include filming in Indonesia and Singapore for "Joker Game" (2015) and entirely in South Korea for "The Sacred Place" (2021). His latest project is a Netflix series drama scheduled for release in 2027.
